Since the introduction of Google SGE, it may be time to rethink our SEO strategy!

If you’re focusing on creating valuable content with long-tail and low-search keywords focused on client intent – then it’s great! Keep doing a good job cause this is what the future of Google search is all about.

What is SGE? Well, in a few words, it’s the new Google search. Traditional search results rely on providing a list of relevant website recommendations of where you’re most likely to find out the answer to your search query. But SGE offers you an overview of the answer you’re looking for – with no need to click through other web pages.

What Does it Mean for Businesses?

With the adoption of SGE Google results, there will be both opportunities and downsides for businesses and marketers alike. So, what does that mean?

Well, because SGE offers the answers to everything we need at the top of the search results, users will be less and less likely to click on other website pages. So, we will be forced to rethink our content strategy and provide more answer-oriented and educational-based information with relevant data.

Even more so, since Google Search Generative Experience can understand contextually the content of our webpage, search ranking is going to be more than using keywords and meta descriptions. The focus will be on writing unique and meaningful content that provides valuable insights within our users’ search context.

Advantages of Google Search Generative Experience

Google SGE is all about making everything easier for us as users. This is why Google Search Generative Experience will change completely the way we interact with search engines and access information online. So, here are the advantages of Google SGE:

  • Convenience: Instead of having to navigate through various websites and search queries, SGE just provides you with an overview of what you are looking for. It will be just like asking ChatGPT, but it will be directly on Google.
  • Simplified Answers: Sometimes, we’re Googling questions we don’t quite understand. And in some situations, we’re bombarded with answers with even more information we still don’t understand. For example, we could look up the symptoms and treatment of a rare disease. Google SGE will provide a concise overview of the condition, including common symptoms, available treatment options, and perhaps even links to reputable medical sources for further information.
  • Conversational Results: The best part about Google SGE is that (as its name suggests) it’s an interactive experience, rather than the traditional search where we would just click on multiple web pages in hopes of finding what we’re looking for. Besides related content, Google SGE also offers follow-up questions for even more information.

Disadvantages of Google Search Generative Experience

Yes, Google’s Generative AI Search has the potential to change everything about search engines and search results. But with this power comes certain downsides and considerations. So, what are the disadvantages of Google SGE?

  • Misinformation: Because Google SGE is still an experiment (and they have a disclaimer for this), it’s still in its early stages of development. For this reason, there is a risk of inaccurate or biased results – especially if the AI algorithms are not trained correctly or if they amplify existing biases present in the data. This can become highly problematic in terms of safety concerns.
  • Privacy Concerns: Since the new Google Search will function (and learn) based on user queries, there may be concerns about how user data is collected, stored, and utilized – especially now, in its early stages.
  • What About Paid Search?: One of the primary revenue sources for advertising and marketing is Google Advertising. So, what will happen to them now that SGE is the first thing we see? Besides organic-based generative content, Google has also started thinking about generative AI ads and is experimenting with integrating them into their SGE search results.

Google Search Generative Experience will be the new Google Search, and it’s time to embrace it. So, make sure to prepare for the future of SEO and Google SGE!
