The most traffic to our website comes from organic search. So, it’s time to prioritize our search engine optimization (SEO) strategy!

What is SEO?

Search engine optimization (SEO) represents the process of optimizing our website’s visibility in search engine platforms, such as Google or Bing. By applying these techniques, we can rank higher on search results as pages become more easily findable, helping us gain more organic traffic.

So, what is SEO and how it works? Well, whether it’s about improving our website configuration, refining our content strategy, or even optimizing our link-building and link-popularity, SEO is necessary for the success of any business or website.

Why is SEO Important?

To understand why SEO optimization is important, let’s get back to basics: what does SEO stand for? Search engine optimization is all about aiming to rank as high as possible – especially on the first page of the search engine results page (SERP). At the same time, let’s remember that every day, there are billions of searches on Google.

The connection is simple – the higher our website ranks, the more users will visit it.

And it makes sense! In fact, the no. 1 result in SERP captures around 27% of the traffic, while the second position receives an average of 15% of traffic and the third only 11% of the traffic. Even more so, the top organic results on Google are 7- 10 times more likely to be clicked on than a page in the 10th position.

This is where SEO marketing comes into play. Because let’s face it – not taking advantage of these SEO techniques means neglecting one of, if not the most important, traffic channels.

We must take this opportunity to implement SEO best practices to attract potential customers and get them on our website. Plus, it also ensures that our users will have a great experience. And as they say, a happy customer is a happy business.

What are SEO Best Practices?

To implement an SEO strategy, we can focus on multiple strategies. This can involve:

1. Technical Optimization:

Making sure our website works well is fundamental for SEO optimization because we want search engines to find and access all the content and elements on our pages, including text, images, and videos. So, the technical elements that we should pay attention to when implementing SEO techniques are URL structure, internal linking, content accessibility, and the overall architecture structure.

At the same time, we should prioritize fast loading times, mobile-friendliness, usability, CMS (content management system), secure connections through HTTPS, and the web hosting service chosen. They all ensure we provide users with a good UX experience and meet search engine requirements simultaneously.

2. Content Optimization

The secret to SEO optimization is the content is KING. But here’s the trick. Our content must be tailored to our users (what is included on the page) and search engines (the code they will see).

As you probably already know, we should always aim to create high-quality content. It makes sense! We want to build credibility among our users and provide them with the best information. For this reason, when optimizing content for our users, we should include relevant keywords, make sure that it’s grammatically and factually correct, includes visuals, and it’s readable.

On the other hand, for search engines, we must look at the behind-the-scenes of content. The elements that we should optimize are:

  • Title Tags (maximum of 60 characters)
  • Meta Descriptions (maximum of 160 characters)
  • Header Tags (H1-H6)
  • Alt Text for Media (no longer than two small sentences)
  • Open Graph data

3. Building Authority

To rank higher on SERP (search engine results pages), we must ensure that our website can be trusted – to have authority. And it’s mostly determined by the number of backlinks and our domain rating. Backlinks are external links from other website pages directed to our website. In other words, backlinks represent the vote of confidence and credibility to search engine platforms.

How does this work exactly? Well, the more backlinks we have, the more authority we have in the eyes of search engines. Plus, the higher the backlink authority, the higher our domain rating will be. Essentially, it will lead to a high ranking on search engines. To create a backlink strategy, we can create valuable content that naturally attracts users (for example, free tools and studies) and even write posts for other platforms where we can link them to our website.

If done right, SEO optimization might be the key to our success. So, now that you know what SEO stands for and the most important SEO techniques, it’s time to put them into practice!
